Imagine with me... John has taken his years of prayer, study, research, and revelations of the Bible to plan a lesson for the small group he is leading. In preparation, John has diligently incorporated a myriad of Bible verses that he has woven into a theme, even finding several video clips to accent his lesson. However, during the lesson, John finds participants are disengaged as he steadfastly tries to cover all his materials by speaking at people.
Either as a teacher or a participant, we all can relate to the above example.
Like many people, John spent the majority of his time developing the content of his lesson and not enough time on incorporating effective teaching strategies to deliver his content; and this melding of content and strategies is at the core of Instructional Wisdom.
Instructional Wisdom asks the facilitator, instructor, or teacher to take their biblical knowledge, insight, and revelation that they have acquired through innumerable years of prayer, studying, and research and meld it with the intentionality, forethought, and diligence required to organize and orchestrate a learning environment that optimizes connection, engagement, and growth.
Just as Ephesians 2:20 and 1 Peter 2:6 describe Jesus Christ as the Chief Cornerstone of our faith, Proverbs 9:1, 2, and 9 is the chief cornerstone of Instructional Wisdom, serving as the foundation stone or setting stone upon which the weight of teaching from the Bible rests. By setting this chief cornerstone, facilitators, instructors, or teachers will be able to more effectively give away and impart the Bible’s invaluable and life-changing knowledge to others.
Similar to the difference of only reading about Jesus compared to truly experiencing Jesus, to fully own and implement Instructional Wisdom it is best for people to experience it through a workshop. Therefore, if you are interested in providing a three-hour workshop for people who will be teaching from the Bible, please email redesignthereality@gmail.com for training opportunities.
Below is an article on the importance of developing Instructional Wisdom when teaching from the Bible and a guide on how to develop it. However, once again, the three-hour workshop is highly recommended because only reading about Instructional Wisdom it not enough; people need to experience it in order to fully own it.
